About my prints
An important starting point for my work is the colour and its
inherent power and influence. I like to relate to a certain
dimension of the paper that I choose to work on. The result
is often series, such as the series Organism. I
relate to certain elements where the challenge is to move these
into different compositions. The paper, the nerve of the dry
point and the traces which emerge in used copper plates is amongst
what attracts me. In my choice of techniques I choose to remain
freely; dry point, carborundum, wood cut, steel plate which
has been etched down by grass and moss
or screenprint.
The balance between something one knows well and having an open
mind towards renewal is another challenge.
In my latest prints I return to a small etching from 1991 -
On the necessity of butterfly wings. The butterfly
is a symbol of many things; freedom, beauty, the immortality
of the soul etc. We take it for granted where it flies past,
but what if it did not exist? Then what? Some of my prints have
titles, others not. For me it is important that the public is
free to communicate and interpret the work. That is why I am
sometimes careful with locking my pictures into
too many words.
